Guerrilla Gallery is an intervention and protest project with the aim to unassemble the commercial gallery and white cube concept. This gallery is an artistic manifestation on the public space with the objective of creating dialogues of intersection and proximity with local community through site-specific artistic installations on the floor and walls of the imprevisible spaces of Torres Vedras city centre. It is intended to discuss the role of an artist and curator as a cultural agent and as an active social force, to reveal, question and redefine our relation with the spaces of the city and the world as citizens.
On this call artists will not have to travel to participate. The artist will not have to send the artwork via postal. The artists will not have to pay to participate. The artists will not have to write a proposal to participate.
This is a project by the contemporary art curator Jorge Reis, produced and with the support of EMERG — Cultural Association, in the program of XILEMA initiative by the Fantasma Collective, where various local cultural agents collaborate and where will discuss the relation of art and sustainability, promoting plural dialogues and actions in the city of Torres Vedras. The XILEMA will happen on 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, and 24 of July of 2022.
The artworks will remain after XILEMA until the time and the weather conditions disintegrate it.
Here’s what you need to do to participate.
Submit your proposal/ artwork taking into account the following factors:
- The artwork will be printed in high contrast (black and white);
- The artwork will be printed in A4 size;
- The proposal could be submitted with only 1 up to 250 sheets;
- You can submit more than one proposal, but we will only select one per artist;
- The selection will be made by one EMERGE — Cultural Association representative, a representative of Fantasma Collective and a local cultural agent invited by the curator Jorge Reis;
- There is no country nor age restriction.
What you need to send to us is on the list below:
- A PDF with your artwork proposal ready to be printed (A4 sheet sequence);
- Instructions to apply your artwork and indication if it is to be applied on the wall, floor or if it is indifferent, attached or in the body of the email;
- Simulation of your artwork as it is applied;
- The text about the artwork/ proposal is not obligatory;
- Send us your website and social media links in the body of the email;
- Send us your biography (not confuse it with your artistic curriculum). See suggestions on how to write a biography here. Send it in the body of the email. There is no characters limitation for this text. The biography should be written in english.
